About ROCA

ROCA Counseling Associates Inc.  provides professional counseling services for individuals, couples, and families whenever it is needed.  We approach each case with an independent evaluation to determine what is best at that time for that person. Our treatment approach is grounded in current therapeutic and medical research.

All counselors at ROCA are licensed by the state of Texas and hold Masters level degrees.


Pam Abernethy, M.Ed., L.P.C.

Pam obtained her BS in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School Allied Health Sciences Department in Dallas Texas.  She later received her M.Ed. in counseling from Texas Woman's University. 

In 1996, Pam established ROCA Counseling Associates, Inc.  In addition, she co-founded several hospital programs in the Dallas area and worked as an individual and group facilitator of those programs. In addition, Pam is a frequent guest speaker at area support and interest groups.

Pam's approach to client's is based on their unique needs, with an emphasis on Cognitive-Behavioral therapy and Dialectical Behavioral therapy.  Her primary areas of interest include depression, anxiety, eating disorders, grief, loss, adjustment disorders, and oncology patients or family members. 

Clients include individuals, couples, and families.

Rachel Meltzer, M.A., L.P.C.

Rachel has been a member of ROCA since 1999.  Prior to joining our team, Rachel worked as a Staff Therapist in the Trauma Unit at Timberlawn Mental Health System.  While there she provided both individual and group therapy and served as Administrative Assistant for the Medical Director. 

Rachel's educational background includes achieving a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology.  She is licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Counselors.  Utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral approach, her practice focuses on treatment for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, PTSD and trauma-based disorders. 

Clients include individuals, couples, families and adolescents.


Carol J. King, M.S.S.W, L.C.S.W.

Carol King has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1989, and a Social Worker since 1981. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelors Degree in 1981 and graduated with a Masters Degree in 1982. Work experience includes a variety of treatment settings which include Medical Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, Home Health Agencies, Nursing Homes, and Retirement Centers. Carol has been contracting with ROCA for seven years furnishing counseling services. The clinical area of specialization includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the DSM IV – TR Major Mental Disorders. In addition to ROCA, Carol has also been performing clinical work at Terrell State Hospital  since 1986.

She has worked with all populations including children from age 6 and up and adults of all ages. Memberships in Professional Organizations have included: National Association of Social Workers, American Group Therapy Association, and Who’s Who of American Women. Specialized areas attained include working with EAP Programs, Alcohol and Drug Abuse afflicted clients and Forensic Population Groups. All of these areas required additional training programs post University Level.


JoDee Hoffman, M.A., L.P.C.

JoDee Hoffman graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, with a BS in Psychology.  She received her MA in Counseling Psychology from Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and has been in private practice at ROCA Counseling Associates in Richardson, Texas since 2008. 

JoDee’s clinical experience includes working in nursing homes, an intermediate care mental health facility, and most recently, working on the Trauma Unit at Timberlawn Mental Health Systems in Dallas, Texas.  Her areas of interest include depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, dissociative identity disorder, borderline personality disorder, and grief/loss issues.  Her approach is eclectic, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. 

Clients include both individuals and couples.
